Hello CPB Friends!

I am excited to share with you our plans for Pride 2022! The board and artistic staff have been hard at work preparing for our first “normal” pride season since 2019. Below you will find information, a schedule, and a sign-up form. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I hope to see you at our first rehearsal!
General Information

We are thrilled to share that this pride season will be the most “normal” since 2019, including the annual Stonewall Columbus Pride Parade and Festival. As such, we will prepare for both a parade performance, and our stand-still stage performance. Indoor rehearsals will take place at King Avenue United Methodist Church (299 King Ave, Columbus, OH 43201) and outdoor rehearsals will take place at Dodge Park (667 Sullivant Ave, Columbus, OH 43215). See the schedule below for specific event locations. As always, the marching band is open to all wind instruments, and will include our drumline and color guard. Kristina Underwood will be returning to lead the color guard, and we are excited to share that Megan Banks will join the artistic staff to lead and instruct the drumline.

Our uniform this year will remain the same as last year with the grey Columbus Pride Bands shirt, navy blue shorts, and white tennis shoes. Hats will be welcome but optional. Returning members do not need to purchase a new shirt. Those who do need a new shirt, or just want another, will be able to purchase one for approximately $20 (final cost will be announced at rehearsal).

Our usual season dues will be in place – $20 for the season for returning members. As always the first season is free.

Finally, this year we will be extending an invitation to members of other pride bands to travel to Columbus and perform with us in the pride parade (only the parade – the stage show will be just us). As such we are adding a Friday rehearsal before Pride, and plan to also include a social activity. We hope to build connections with other bands and have a fun time with new friends! Look for more details soon!
COVID Policy Update

The Columbus Pride Bands Board of Directors voted this week to update the band’s COVID policy in reflect recent trends in the pandemic. Masks will now be optional but welcome both inside and outside. The band’s vaccine requirement remains in place meaning that all band members must be fully vaccinated (at least two weeks since two shots of Pfizer/Moderna or one shot of J&J). New members, or members performing for the first time since the pandemic must show their proof of vaccination to TJ Klopfstein (board Vice President) at or before their first band event.

Travel/Other Pride Events

The schedule above contains the two performances that we plan to attend as a band. While we are excited for a fairly normal season, we felt that it is still too soon for us to commit to a full-band bus trip this year. That said, we will be sharing details and information for nearby pride festivals for members who may be interested in traveling to perform with other pride bands, similar to the invitation we are extending to members of other nearby bands to perform with us. We also could be invited to perform for other events around central Ohio. In that event we will send details and an interest form as soon as possible before we commit to performing.

If you are interested in participating this summer please sign-up using the Google Form linked below. The sign-up is simple, and will help us plan and track attendance/participation throughout May and June.
